Amazon Prime Day: 4 Reasons It’s Okay to Skip It - Irvine Moms

Amazon Prime Day is here, and it’s a doozy. For the first time, it’s four days long instead of one (or two, which it used to be). If you’re all about Prime Day (really, Prime Week…), that’s great. But if you aren’t feeling it, we hear you—these are 5 good reasons Prime Day might not be prime time for shopping.

Shopping Local Is Important to You
Sure, you can shop small businesses on Amazon if you look for them. But nothing is quite the same for your local community as supporting businesses founded and based in your area. Few moms don’t need Amazon Prime in their lives (particularly around birthday parties, the holidays, etc.), but if you like to shop local, you might pass on Prime Day.

You Want the Best Deal—Not Just Any Deal
Simply because something is listed as part of the Prime Day deals, doesn’t mean it’s the lowest price you’ll find on Amazon. Sites like CamelCamelCamel actually track when the best prices on Amazon usually hit for various products, so you can plan your purchases accordingly.

You Know You Can’t Resist a Sale
Just like a “Sale!” sign in a store window, Prime Days are meant to get you in the door. Once you add anything to your cart, you’re more likely to throw in a few more deals, spurred on by the urgency of it all. Certainly, if you’ve had your eye on a purchase for a while and it’s part of the Prime sale, it makes sense to pull the trigger. But be cognizant of buying what you really want—not just getting trigger happy because of a perceived deal (see above) or because you already have a cart going.

Saving a Few Dollars Isn’t Worth Your Time
If you’re looking at saving $2 or $3, taking the time to scour sales and buy under pressure probably isn’t worth it. Yes, some of these limited time deals are offered at a sizeable discount—but just as many are only a few dollars off. You’re busy—and it’s okay if you don’t want to prioritize Prime Day.
